Exam Information
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) National Registry-listed medical examiners must conduct the Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination. Among them are doctors of medicine (MD), doctors of osteopathy (DO), physician assistants (PA), advanced practice nurses (APN), and doctors of chiropractic (DC).
DOT physical exams are valid for 24 months. If a condition, such as high blood pressure, needs to be monitored, the medical examiner may issue a certificate for less than 24 months.
